Dean’s Medal

Established in 2008, the Dean’s Medal recognizes extraordinary service, philanthropy, and leadership to the School, and dedication and commitment that inspire others to take leadership roles at the University. Individuals, families, associations, corporations, or foundations may be recognized. It is among the highest honors given by the School.

Ronald Rettner

A passionate proponent and tireless supporter of educational and community advancement, Ronald Rettner is an exemplar of philanthropy, vision, and leadership. Throughout his highly successful career as an entrepreneur, business executive, and developer, he has given significant time and resources to his community and beyond, maximizing the impact and long-term benefits of his contributions. At the University of Rochester, the renovations and new building he has enabled are providing the foundation and framework for Arts, Sciences & Engineering to position itself for future growth and success. A deeply engaged member of the Board of Trustees, Ron is dedicated to the union of arts and sciences, generously providing the lead gift for Ronald Rettner Hall for Media Arts and Innovation at the University. A space dedicated to multidisciplinary collaboration that blends liberal arts and engineering, Rettner Hall is inspiring new ways of thinking, creating, and solving problems among our students and faculty. His unique ability to connect physical spaces to the academic mission of the University has also resulted in the transformation of historic academic buildings and spaces on Eastman Quad. Through the Ronald Rettner Campus Improvement Fund, he is preserving their existing beauty while revitalizing them as state-of-the-art facilities that will benefit the University for years to come. A true visionary who inspires others through his devotion to making the University an ever better institution, Ron has had a tremendous and enduring impact on campus. It is with deep respect and heartfelt gratitude for his extraordinary passion, deep devotion, and genuine philanthropy that this honor is bestowed.
