John N. Wilder Award

Established in 2008, the John N. Wilder Award honors an individual, family, association, corporation, or foundation whose philanthropy inspires others in support of an “Ever Better” University of Rochester. The award is named for John Wilder, first president (chairman) of the University’s Board of Trustees.

2015 Recipient

Elizabeth Puhn Bruno(Pungello)

A University of Rochester alumna with a heart for at-risk youth, Liz Bruno has made an incredible difference in the lives of so many of our students. By generously providing financial support for first-generation college students and underrepresented minorities, she has given these young people the tools necessary to follow their dreams. Dozens of her scholars and fellows have not only had their economic worries relieved, but they have also been inspired by the confidence she has placed in each one of them. This confidence and support has allowed them to rise above their personal circumstances of their past and has given them the strength to live out the motto of “ever better.” Many of these students have vowed to pay forward this tremendous opportunity she has provided and plan to help other struggling young people in the future. Liz Bruno’s genuine compassion has been truly inspirational to the University of Rochester community, and it is with deepest and heartfelt gratitude that this honor is bestowed.
