Edward Ackley is founder and past president of The Filter Store, an online distribution firm specializing in replacement filters for residential and industrial applications. He previously served as CEO of Consler Corporation, a filter and water equipment company he founded and operated for 27 years.
Mr. Ackley received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Rochester in 1953 and then served for two years in the U.S. Army. Upon returning to Rochester he joined Pfaudler Inc. as commercial development manager. In tandem with his full-time post there, he attended the Simon Business School, earning his MS in 1964. Two years later, Mr. Ackley joined Dollinger Corporation, serving as vice president of manufacturing for three years before being recruited as a founding partner at Consler Corporation. He built that company into a multimillion-dollar global leader in filtration technology and subsequently spun off another firm, Micron Separations Inc., which produced a variety of sophisticated biotech filters. Mr. Ackley sold both companies to Berkshire Hathaway and General Electric, respectively, and went on to launch The Filter Store in 1984.
A longtime University advisor and dedicated alumni volunteer, Mr. Ackley has served on the Simon Executive Advisory Committee and the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences Visiting Committee since 2009. A former member of the Honorary Trustees Alumni Council of the College, he also served on his 40th, 50th, and 60th reunion committees, co-chairing his 50th. Mr. Ackley is a regular attendee at numerous University-related events, including the Simon NYC Conference, the Simon Alumni and Student Reception, and a Rochester Forum in Naples, Florida. In honor of his service, he was presented with the Simon School’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2009.
Deeply devoted philanthropists, Mr. Ackley and his wife, Agnes (Van Branteghem) Ackley ’54, generously established the Edward J. and Agnes V. Ackley Executive Professorship in Entrepreneurship in 2009. This professorship has helped the Simon School be more competitive with other business schools in attracting and retaining outstanding faculty. In addition to funding this post, the Ackleys steadfastly support the Simon School and Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences Annual Funds. They are members of the George Eastman Circle, the University’s leadership annual giving society.
The Ackleys live in Pittsford, New York, and are the parents of four children.
