Dr. William (Bill) Calnon is a practicing dentist and partner of Calnon & Cilano, DDS, PC and part-time professor in the Department of Dentistry at the School of Medicine and Dentistry. He is the immediate past president of the American Dental Association and the former acting director of the Eastman Institute for Oral Health.
Dr. Calnon graduated magna cum laude from the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse University and received his dental degree from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1978. He completed his general practice residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in 1979 at what is now the Eastman Institute for Oral Health. He has practiced in Chili since 1981 and formed the professional corporation of Calnon & Cilano, DDS, PC with Dr. Thomas Cilano in 1989.
Active in dental organizations since graduation, Dr. Calnon has served as president of the Monroe County and Seventh District Dental Societies as well as president of the New York State Dental Association. He was a member of the Council of Dental Practice at the American Dental Association and was also a trustee to that association, representing the dentists of New York State.
Dr. Calnon became president of the Eastman Dental Foundation Board in 2009 and was named acting director of the Eastman Institute for Oral Health in 2012, leading the institute while the search for a new director was under way. A mentor at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health for many years, he was the featured speaker at Convocation 2003 and at the 2011 event focused on ethical guidelines for the dentist.
He and his wife, Mary Kay, have two sons, Christopher ’09D (Den) and Tim, a first-year orthodontics resident at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health.
