Established in 2002, the Alumni Service Award recognizes a graduate who has furthered the interests of the School of Medicine and Dentistry through significant support, commitment, and service to the School. With an accomplished career that spans more than five decades, Dr. Lawrence Nazarian has devoted his professional life to pediatric medicine, serving Rochester families as a pediatrician for 35 years. While in practice, he continued to enhance the landscape of pediatric research in his editorial roles at Pediatrics in Review, an internationally published journal by the American Academy of Pediatrics, where he now serves as editor emeritus. A versatile physician, he served as a medical officer in the United States Army before holding numerous instructional leadership roles within the School of Medicine and Dentistry, teaching at nearly every level from first year medical students to seasoned clinicians. Holding great revere for his alma mater, his philanthropy has made a lasting impact on the University of Rochester Medical Center, specifically, Golisano Children’s Hospital, the James P. Wilmot Cancer Institute, and the School. An exemplary role model for generations of physicians to come, he remains active in numerous professional organizations and community causes near to his heart including the Boy Scouts of America and his church. For his lasting contributions to our community and the School, it is with great pride and appreciation that this honor is bestowed.
