Established in 2008, the John N. Wilder Award honors an individual, family, association, corporation, or foundation whose philanthropy inspires others in support of an “Ever Better” University of Rochester. The award is named for John Wilder, first president (chairman) of the University’s Board of Trustees.
Jim Doyle, Jr. and his father have done a tremendous amount to spur the growth of the entrepreneurship program at Simon Business School. In 2010, Jim surprised his dad by announcing his gift to establish the James N. Doyle, Sr. Professorship in Entrepreneurship in honor of his father’s many years as a Simon professor. Jim Doyle, Sr. was a pioneering member of the Simon School entrepreneurship faculty, establishing programs that still exist today. In 2012, Ron Goettler was installed as the inaugural holder of this named position. Ron has been a significant addition to our faculty, and it was this professorship that allowed us to recruit him from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business to Simon. An entrepreneur in his own right, Jim Doyle, Jr. has been a frequent guest lecturer in our entrepreneurship classes. Both his business experience and his generosity have been a great inspiration to others, and it is with our sincere thanks and admiration that this honor is bestowed.
